Las puertas del paraíso, de Salomón Laiter: crítica y ruptura en el cine mexicano de los 70

Abstract

Facultad de Letras. Arte y Cultura ; Historically, Mexican cinema reached its most prominent point between the years of 1936 and 1952, during the period known as the Golden Age of Mexican cinema. This stage consolidated the country's film industry as one of the most important in the world. At the end of the 1950s and during the 1960s, national cinema declined. Although the quantity of films kept their productivity high, the quality of the productions left much to be desired. A new stage was urgently needed to overcome the stagnation of an industry that had become stagnant when its production formulas, its artistic solvency, its themes, its schemes and even the presence of its best artists and directors were exhausted. Faced with this situation, a group of young filmmakers and moviegoers undertook the task, through their own means and with limited resources, of promoting new ideas by opening film clubs, publishing magazines, and publishing critical articles. cinematography and the production of original and independent films, far from censorship, the dictatorship of the charro unions and the simple morality imposed by the vertical presidential governments. Among these young filmmakers, Salomón Laiter stood out, who had already participated in the First Experimental Film Contest with his film En el parque hondo. In 1970, with an argument by Elena Garro and a script written in collaboration with the poet Eduardo Lizalde, Laiter managed to create a film unique for its quality and intensity: Las puertas del paraíso, with which he won the Ariel for Best Film during 1972.
