Field recording et art documentaire. Croisements politiques entre la France et le Chili

Abstract

International audience ; Since the late 1990s and the early 2000s, there has been a "documentary turn" in art, a turning point that also increasingly affects sound art and music. It is possible to theorize this "return of the real" in art as a re-appropriation of critical, engaged thinking. In sound art and music, this turn towards a documentary art is largely due to the extensive use of field recording. This article will deal with two examples related to important political moments. The first has as its context the French revolt that occurred in the spring of 2016 under the name of Nuit Debout; the second concerns the Chilean revolt that began in October 2019 – despite their geographical and temporal difference, these contexts are not without commonalities. The first context nurtured an artistic project that we will describe. As for the second, it will be an opportunity to reflect on the subject of field recording – who documents and for whom? – and, beyond that, to reflect on what it means to document the voice of the people. ; Depuis la fin des années 1990 et le début des années 2000, on assiste à un « tournant documentaire » de l'art, tournant qui touche aussi de plus en plus les arts sonores et à la musique. On a pu théoriser ce « retour du réel » dans l'art comme une réappropriation de la pensée critique et engagée. Dans les arts sonores et en musique, ce tournant vers un art documentaire se produit en grande partie grâce à l'utilisation extensive du field recording. Cet article traitera de deux exemples liés à des moments politiques importants. Le premier a pour contexte la révolte française qui se produisit au printemps 2016 sous le nom de Nuit debout ; le second concerne la révolte chilienne qui commença en octobre 2019 – malgré leur différence géographique et temporelle, ces contextes ne sont pas sans points communs.
