Abstract

Envelope with an attached page in which it appears written: "Content: File related to matters dealt with in Washington by Mr. Vargas, Mr. Gaxiola, Mr. Dover, Mr. Rosseter, etc." (Here is Mr. Harding's original letter addressed to the President). The content was divided into three files, the first containing correspondence of the Consul General, Luis Montes de Oca, Mr. Fernando Torreblanca, Mr. Manuel Vargas, Mr. John M. Rosseter, Mr. Ignacio P. Gaxiola, President Warren G. Harding, Mr. Elmer Dover, and President Alvaro Obregón, related to "a gratification" requested by the American Senator Fall to change the negetive tone of its reports on Mexico; to the work of the propaganda agents of the Mexican government in the U.S. in order to achieve diplomatic recognition; to the appointment and introduction of Mr. Ignacio P. Gaxiola as confidential agent of President Alvaro Obregón, who is going to Washington to fulfill a sensitive mission. Transcription and translation of a letter from Mr. Warren G. Harding to Gen. Alvaro Obregón, thanking him for the expressions of sympathy that he sent on his inauguration. This letter was not sent directly to Gen. Obregón but to Mr. Manuel Vargas, financial agent of Mexico in New York, who transcribed it through an encrypted telegram. Appointment of Mr. Dover as consulting attorney of the Mexican Embassy; reports that Mr. Vargas has an interview with Gen. Pablo González and the Undersecretary Fletcher; reports by Mr. Ignacio P. Gaxiola on the results of his mission to the U.S.government (See file 48/27, inventory 5252 "HARDING, Warren G.", of the same series). / Sobre con una hoja pegada en la que aparece escrito: "Contenido. El contenido fue dividido en tres legajos, el primero contiene correspondencia entre el Cónsul General, Luis Montes de Oca, los Srs. Fernando Torreblanca, Manuel Vargas, John M. Rosseter, Ignacio P. Gaxiola, el Presidente Warren G. Harding, el Sr. Elmer Dover y el Presidente Alvaro Obregón, relativa a "una gratificación" que pide el Senador norteamericano Fall para cambiar el tono negativo de sus informes sobre México; al trabajo de los agentes de propaganda del gobierno mexicano ante el norteamericano a fin de lograr el reconocimiento diplomático; al nombramiento y presentación del Sr. Ignacio P. Gaxiola como agente confidencial del Presidente Alvaro Obregón, quien va a Washington a cumplir una delicada misión. Transcripción y traducción de una carta del Sr. Warren G. Harding al Gral. Alvaro Obregón, agradeciendo las expresiones de simpatía que le envió con motivo de su toma de posesión. Esta carta no fue enviada directamente al Gral. Obregón sino al Sr. Manuel Vargas, agente financiero de México en Nueva York, quien la transcribió a través de un telegrama en clave.
