Un lungo e complesso rapporto: 165 anni di relazioni russo-giapponesi

Abstract

Tale lavoro indaga in una prospettiva diacronica lo sviluppo delle relazioni tra la Russia ed il Giappone durante l'età contemporanea, al fine di evidenziarne i caratteri di continuità e discontinuità ed analizzarne l'attuale stato, con la possibilità ultima di valutarne potenziali linee future d'evoluzione. L'elaborato è ripartito in tre capitoli. Il primo di questi descrive l'instaurazione e lo sviluppo delle relazioni tra l'Impero russo e l'Impero giapponese dalla metà del XIX secolo fino alla caduta dell'Impero zarista ed alla costituzione dell'Unione Sovietica. Il secondo capitolo analizza lo sviluppo delle relazioni tra il Giappone Showa e l'Unione Sovietica fino alla fine della Guerra fredda. Il terzo capitolo, infine, studia l'evoluzione delle relazioni tra la Federazione Russa ed il Giappone dal 1992 ad oggi. Le conclusioni a cui si giunge evidenziano la complessità del rapporto tra i due paesi negli ultimi centosessantacinque anni, per lo più conflittuale ma intervallato da periodi di cooperazione e perfino alleanza. Il perdurare della disputa sulle isole Curili meridionali non ha impedito ai due Stati di sviluppare strette relazioni politiche ed economiche, sebbene la prospettiva di un deciso e positivo sviluppo delle relazioni bilaterali sia oggi sfavorita dal diverso posizionamento di Mosca e Tokyo di fronte al confronto sino-americano nella regione dell'Asia-Pacifico, di cui entrambi i paesi continuano a rappresentare due dei principali attori geopolitici. This work investigates the development of relations between Russia and Japan during the contemporary age in a diachronic perspective, in order to highlight the characteristics of continuity and discontinuity and analyze their current state, with the ultimate possibility of evaluating their future lines of evolution. The work is divided into three chapters. The first one describes the establishment and development of relations between the Russian and Japanese Empires from the mid-19th century until the fall of the Tsarist Empire and the establishment of the Soviet Union. The second chapter analyzes the development of relations between Showa Japan and the Soviet Union until the end of the Cold War. Finally, the third one studies the evolution of relations between the Russian Federation and Japan from 1992 until today. The reached conclusions highlight the complexity of this relationship over the last one hundred and sixty-five years, mostly conflicting but interrupted by periods of cooperation and even alliance. The persistence of the dispute over the Southern Kuril Islands has not prevented the two States from developing close political and economic ties, although the prospect of a decisive and positive development of bilateral relations is hindered today by the different position of Moscow and Tokyo in the face of the Sino-American confrontation in the Asia-Pacific region, where both countries continue to represent two fundamental geopolitical players.
