Miedo, religiosidad y política: a propósito del terremoto de 1812 ; FEAR, RELIGIOSITY AND POLICY: WITH REGARD TO THE 1812 EARTHQUAKE

Abstract

Este artículo analiza el impacto que tuvo el terremoto del 26 de marzo de 1812 en la política y sociedad venezolana. Describe la destrucción que produjo en las ciudades. Pero, especialmente se concentra en el estudio del miedo que generó en la población y la manera como fue manipulado a favor de una posición política. El artículo concluye que este terremoto fue una causa importante en la caída del primer gobierno republicano establecido en Venezuela. ; This article analyzes the impact that had the earthquake of the 26 of March of 1812 in the policy and Venezuelan society. It describes the destruction that produced in the cities. But, specially it is concentrated in the study of the fear that generated in the population and the way as it were manipulated in favor of one political position. The article concludes, that this earthquake was an important cause in the fall of the first established republican government in Venezuela.
