Una introducción a la historia del Pensamiento Político Contemporáneo presente en la obra de Michael Oakeshott

Abstract

El presente trabajo enfoca la perspectiva histórica en torno al pensamiento político moderno mantenida por Oakeshott en relación a su filosofía de la historia y el contexto académico que pudo influir en su obra, siendo la principal cuestión que vertebra este trabajo, aquella que intenta dilucidar si existe relación entre su filosofía de la historia y la historia del pensamiento político contextualizado en la Modernidad. En el primer capítulo se lleva a cabo una breve narración de la vida y obra del autor así como la explicitación del itinerario del trabajo. En el segundo capítulo se analizan los rasgos constantes y destacados de la indagación histórica como disciplina autónoma e independiente. En el tercer capítulo se sitúa conceptual e históricamente el pensamiento de Oakeshott dentro de una línea concreta de la filosofía política y de la historia del pensamiento político, tarea crucial para comenzar a responder a la cuestión principal planteada. Para terminar, el cuarto y quinto capítulo se analizan dos obras en las que se entrevé el relato histórico que Oakeshott construye en torno al pensamiento político europeo moderno. Para ello, se ha acudido, en primer lugar, a las conferencias impartidas en 1958 en Harvard bajo el título original de "Morality and Politics in Modern Europe"; y por otro lado, a las lecciones impartidas a finales de los años sesenta en la London School of Economics, tituladas "Lectures in the History of Political Thought". ; This paper focuses on the historical perspective about modern political thought maintained by Oakeshott in relation to his philosophy of history and the academic context that may have influenced his work. The main question that underpins this paper is whether there is a relationship between his philosophy of history and the history of political thought in the context of Modernity. In the first chapter there is a brief narration of the author's life and work, as well as an explanation of the itinerary of his work. The second chapter analyses the constant and outstanding features of historical research as an autonomous and independent discipline. In the third chapter, Oakeshott's thought is conceptually and historically situated within a specific line of political philosophy and the history of political thought, a crucial task in order to begin to answer the main question posed. To conclude, the fourth and fifth chapters analyse two works where the historical account that Oakeshott constructs around modern European political thought is glimpsed. For this aim, we have used, firstly, the lectures given in 1958 at Harvard under the title "Morality and Politics in Modern Europe"; and secondly, the lessons given at the end of the 1960s at the London School of Economics, entitled "Lectures in the History of Political Thought". ; Universidad de Sevilla.
