RUSSIANS' ATTITUDE TOWARDS PROTESTANTISM IN CONTEMPORARY RUSSIA: REGIONAL ASPECT ; Отношение россиян к протестантизму в современных условиях: региональный аспект

Abstract

The article deals with the Russians' attitude towards Protestantism in the post-soviet Russia. The authors' periodization of Protestantism formation in Russia is proposed. This periodization is based on three criteria: types of Protestants' activities at each stage; the government's attitude to it; its functions. The authors show that the establishment of the Russian Protestantism took five basic steps. In modern Russia, Protestantism has its own history, it has built its tradition, and it has its own distinctive character. The authors suggest that the most authoritative protestant communities should acquire the status of social partners of state institutions. According to the article, the attitude of the majority of Russians to Protestantism is largely negative, although most of them have friends or acquaintances among the followers of this religion. This can e explained by the stereotypes in the public opinion of Russians: about the church itself (simplification of ceremonies, of the Bible, of the decoration of the church), and about the personal qualities of the congregation (the rejection of community service and charity, lack of citizenship).Key words: church, religion, Protestantism, Protestants, spirituality, morality, social partnership, interfaith cooperation, Russians. ; В статье рассматривается отношение россиян к протестантизму в современной России. Предложена авторская периодизация становления протестантизма в России. В основание периодизации положены три критерия: виды деятельности протестантов в каждый из периодов, отношение к нему власти, выполняемые функции. Показано, что становление российского варианта протестантизма прошло пять основных периодов. В современной России протестантизм имеет свою историю, свои традиции, свой самобытный характер. Отмечается, что наиболее авторитетные протестантские церкви могут и должны обрести статус социальных партнеров государственных институтов. Исследование выявило, что отношение к протестантизму у большинства россиян во многом отрицательное, хотя большинство из них имеет знакомых или друзей среди адептов данной религии.
