Критерії відбору документів для оцифрування історико-культурної спадщини України ; Document Selection Criteria for Digitizing the Historical and Cultural Heritage of Ukraine

Abstract

Означено важливість першочергового оцифрування рідкісних та цінних документів, що становлять історико-культурну спадщину України. Розглянуто критерії, за якими книжкові видання долучають до категорії «книжкові пам'ятки» в Україні. Визначено основні групи критеріїв, якими мають керуватися співробітники бібліотек під час оцінювання книжкових видань для відбору на оцифрування. Акцентовано на необхідності долучення до цифрової колекції історико-культурної спадщини України національного рівня не лише книжкових видань, а й інших документів (періодичні, картографічні, нотографічні видання, листівки тощо). ; Relevance of this study. The impact of the growing public interest in the historical past of Ukraine, national cultural heritage and active development of information technology in library activities is relevant. Libraries as social institutions create digital collections of Ukrainian historical and cultural heritage. The digitization of library collections is a new trend to preserve rare and valuable documents. It is a reliable systematization of cultural heritage.The aim of this paper is to study documents in library collections for their digitization; to identify the main document selection criteria for the digitization of historical and cultural heritage.Research methodology. The author analyzes the legislation of Ukraine and scientific publications on the subject. The author uses following general scientific methods: analysis, synthesis, generalization and others.Results. The importance of digitizing rare and valuable documents constitu-ting the historical and cultural heritage of Ukraine is shown. Particular attention is paid to the main groups of criteria for evaluating book editions. The study demonstrated a need for the digitization of various documents: books, periodicals, cartographic and printed music editions, postcards, posters etc.Novelty. The paper is the first attempt for presenting the document selection criteria to digitize the historical and cultural heritage of Ukraine.The practical significance. The main results of this study can be used by libraries for the organization of more efficient digitization of Ukrainian historical and cultural heritage.Conclusion. The primary task of a library is to preserve historical and cultural heritage and to disseminate cultural values under the conditions of informatization of the society. Particular attention is paid to determine specific selection criteria of different types of documents for the digitization of Ukrainian historical and cultural heritage.
