CULTURAL LIFE OF POLISH COMMUNITY IN ODESSA ON THE PAGES OF THE POLISH-LANGUAGE PRESS IN THE EARLY XX ; КУЛЬТУРНЕ ЖИТТЯ ПОЛЬСЬКОЇ ГРОМАДИ ОДЕСИ НА СТОРІНКАХ ПОЛЬСЬКО-МОВНОЇ ПЕРІОДИКИ НА ПОЧАТКУ ХХ ст

Abstract

It is worldwide known, that Russian Empire was like «prison» for peoples. The tsarists' government strongly sup-pressed the national life of the peoples inhabiting the Empire. It is worth mentioning here the Valuev and Ems Decrees, that actually have brought the Ukrainian language out of operation at the official level and promoted russification of the Ukrainians. The situation was complicated also for representatives of other nationalities, including Poles. The revo-lutionary events of 1905-1907 intensified the cultural and educational movement of the Empire peoples. The Poles, that lived in Odessa, tried to exploit the situation. At that period of time they were quite a large group of the population. The evidence of this can serve three churches and the presence of Polish street, where mostly lived the wealthy Polish nobil-ity. Three Polish cultural and educational centres have emerged in the city, that organized armature theatre companies, contributed to the emergence and publishing of Polish-language press and so on. Thanks to the five newspapers and the bulletin that were published in Polish, there is a possibility to recreate cultural life of Polish community in Odessa in the early XX. ; Як відомо, Російська імперія була своєрідною «тюрмою» народів. Царизм всіляко при-душував національне життя народів, що населяли імперію. Принагідно тут згадати Валуєвський і Емський укази, які фактично вивели українську мову за межі функціону-вання на офіційному рівні, сприяли русифікації українців. Складною була ситуація і у представників інших національностей, зокрема поляків. Революційні події 1905-1907 ро-ку активізували культурно-освітній рух народів імперії. Постаралися скористатися си-туацією й поляки, які проживали в м. Одесі. Вони на той час становили достатньо ве-лику групу населення міста. Свідченням цього можуть слугувати три костели і наяв-ність вулиці Польської, де переважно мешкала заможна польська знать. В місті виникли три польських культурно-освітніх товариства, які організували любительські теат-ральні трупи, сприяли появі та друку польсько-мовної преси тощо. Завдячуючи п'яти газетам і бюлетеню, що виходили польською мовою є можливість відтворити культу-рне життя польської громади міста Одеси на початку ХХ століття.
