Chernihiv Pedagogical HEI: Formation of Student Composition and its Basic Characteristics (20–30s of the 20th century)

Abstract

The relevance of research. The Soviet government paid special attention to educating a new type of teacher for the future fertile society, who could obediently follow the instructions and become the "builder of socialism" in the country in the future, implement all the orders of the totalitarian authorities to build a new socialist Soviet nation. In this regard, the emphasis was on the formation of the student contingent, the growth of the quantitative composition of future teachers, the regulation of social, party, state, and gender composition. The purpose of the article: to show the process of staffing the student contingent of a pedagogical university (INO, ISO, pedagogical institute) in Chernihiv, to present the main characteristics of the students of this university, which functioned in the 20-30s of the 20 century. Research methods.The complex of general scientific (analysis, synthesis, method of comparison, dialectical method) and special scientific methods of historical learning (historic-genetic, historic-comparative, historic-typological, problem-chronological) have been applied in the conducted research. The content of the study and its results. In the pedagogical university of Chernigov, considerable attention was paid to the formation of the student contingent. The leading social and political principle in the selection of teachers in this university, as well as in other educational institutions of the republic, was the class approach, which pushed into the background national and universal values. During this period, the university widely used the system of business trips for training by party, Komsomol, trade union, military organizations, and committees of the poor peasants. Youth recruitment plans were either overfulfilled, or, conversely, there was a significant shortfall. In the university, following directives from the center, they resorted to anti-democratic and illegal "purge" campaigns, which caused the authorities changed to a certain extent the social composition of students. ...
