Abstract

The author of the theses explores the genre and style features of S. Zhadan's novel "Boarding School": the tragedy of the plot, the loneliness of the hero, the world of his own and other people's space. An important factor, according to the author of the novel, is the choice (or lack thereof) in extreme conditions, in the beginning of the war: confusion, uncertainty of the average person who fell into the whirlpool of political events and found himself on the brink of war in the early XXI century. The hero Pasha does not realize who he is and how he found himself on the verge of such an existence, on the verge of family disintegration and the destruction of the country, and whether he, an indifferent weakling, will be able to come together and save his family? The novel depicts a biarhatic family: the protagonist and his twin sister live with their father. The woman in this family is focused on earning, so she is unable to save the family and sends her minor son to a boarding school, which confirms that the biarhatic (egalitarian) type of family is in fact a triumph of matriarchy. Against the background of the beginning of hostilities in Donbass in 2014, the main character-introvert has to take responsibility and decide who he is. Is he out of politics, is he aware of the consequences of a senseless war for the country, will he be able to take responsibility for his family and take his underage nephew out of the occupied boarding school? In addition, the author of the thesis made an attempt to outline the genre and style features of the novel "Boarding School" as a modern postmodern novel of generations.
