In 1872 Henry Dunant, on a visit to London, read a paper on the work of the Red Cross. His first words were:—"Though I am known as the Founder of the Red Cross, and the originator of the Conventions of Geneva, it was an Englishwoman to whom all the honour of that Convention is due.
