La Révolution Française et la « Féodalité » : bilan du thème de l'« abolition » dans l'historiographie française (1815-1914)

Abstract

This article wants to throw a light on the history of the theme of abolition in french historiography. Starting from an analysis of feudalism as an objet of revolutionary legislation, through a close study of contemporary texts, it aims especially in its central part at pointing out what means feudalism in historiographical literature about Revolution : pro or counter-revolutionary, scholarly or ideological, between 1815 and 1914. Finally, a conclusion attempts to synthétise theoretical heritage of one century of revolutionary historiography, and its place in actual controverse.
