Abstract
There is a story about the spectator to be written and linked to the history of art. This history- which isn't involved in an aesthetic of the reception or a sociology - must open on a theory of the spectator's plasticity, theory that would present the actual difficulties of the public in front of contemporary art. It is absurd to use the same concepts to describe classical art's public, modern art's public and contemporary art's public, since contemporary art's work opens a space of interference between the spectators. The public's behavior is therefore moved to a "need of exchange".
