Abstract
This article aims to analyze how the struggle for the foundation of a recycling association can be framed within the scope of social recognition of certain sectors of society. The recycling associations in the city of Erechim/RS are the result of a process of social struggle, with intense protagonism of pickers, carrinheiros and carrinheiras. The A4 recycling association, inaugurated in 2009, mobilized several sectors for its foundation, with emphasis on the significant presence of pickers, especially women who worked as pickers for recyclable materials. Women make up the majority in the A4 association and are primarily responsible for the functioning and maintenance of the association. Through a bibliographic review and the use of secondary data, the present study analyzes aspects about the formation of the A4 recycling association, the issue of gender and the labor market, seeks to address some of the specificities of women collectors, in order to analyze the process of constitution of the association, framed in the list of struggles for social recognition of sectors that are on marginal paths in society.
