Back to the Farm at Durga's Den

Abstract

Durga's Den is a 5-acre rural property located close to Ocho Rios, a popular tourism destination in Jamaica. In the last 12 years, it has been transformed into a model of ecological management and sustainable farming: 100% organic production; natural and local materials for all construction; harvesting of rainwater; recycling of waste; use of natural energy sources; and high engagement with local communities. Visitors pay to stay at Durga's Den, but guests are also part of the mix: not just bringing additional revenue but playing an active and useful role in the life of the farm.
