Abstract

Les Landes is a 'Département' of south-western France, famous for its pine forests and endless beaches, part of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. Its identity is reflected in the importance given to sports such as rugby, cycling, basketball and the 'Course Landaise': a relatively non-violent form of bullfighting or bull-running. The value given to these sports is reflected in local chapels that celebrate the sports, through their décor, their sports trophies and their stained-glass windows.
