Abstract

'The Oxford Handbook of Charles S. Peirce' provides a thorough introduction into contemporary research on the work of the American polymath and philosopher Charles Sanders Peirce (1839-1914). Peirce's contributions to philosophy would inspire other American philosophers such as William James and John Dewey. Though most of the volume concentrates on philosophy - with chapters on ethics, aesthetics, phenomenology, logic, metaphysics, and pragmatism - attention is also given to his influence on areas such as semiotics, physics, biology, and mathematics.
