Ecological Science as a Creation Story
In: The independent review: journal of political economy, Band 14, Heft 4, S. 513-534
Abstract
Examines the secular environmental creationism underpinning much ecological science. Discussion begins with a look at the tension between religious thought & Darwinism confronting secular environmental creationists, & it is asserted that masking a new creation story behind a claim of value-neutral science results in poor science & poor theology. Attention is given to the theory of Frederic Clements, the philosophy of Aldo Leopold, the adaptation of physics' methods to ecological science, the work of biologist E. O. Wilson, & Daniel Botkin's (1990) awareness of ecology' religious dimension. References. Adapted from the source document.
