La crisis de los "acomodos razonables" en Quebec: la Comision Bouchard-Taylor
In: Revista internacional de filosofía política, Issue 33, p. 191-209
Abstract
The objective of this paper is to analyze what has come to be called the crisis of reasonable accommodations" in Quebec, which had perhaps given way to the collective majority regarding the destiny & nature of Quebec after the Quiet Revolution of the 1960s. Although its origins are 40 some years old, this crisis emerged in 2006, when the media became interested in a series of demands made by members of minority cultural communities," which were granted in some cases, at least in terms of measures to accommodate specific religious practices. The debate's legitimacy was recognized by some political parties & found some resonance in the society at large. The Bouchard-Taylor Commission was established to consider the problem. Starting from this base of information, the authors lay out the context necessary for the study of this phenomenon, within the framework of a debate regarding the limits of social diversity in plural, liberal, & secular societies & the integration of immigrants in societies that, for a variety of reasons, do not feel completely secure with respect to their own future.
