Abstract
Contrary to widespread beliefs, the notion of a world citizenship is neither fully nor equally accepted everywhere. While it appears to be largely accepted in theory, its practice is subject to varying interpretations & may even run counter the most important components of what is usually meant by world citizenship. Therefore, it is legitimate to stress that we are only at the beginning of a phase of theoretical understanding of the concept & its implications & of few tentative practical applications. In this essay, I will proceed by identifying what kind of noble aspiration world citizenship is. I will then suggest that world citizenship may be differently interpreted by communitarians & by republicans. Finally, I will conclude by pointing at the many problems to be solved before making significant process on the path to world citizenship. 17 References. Adapted from the source document.
