IMPLANTING THE SOCIAL SCIENCES - A REVIEW OF UNESCO'S ENDEAVOURS

Abstract

The article summarizes 18 yrs of activities of UNESCO meant to develop U teaching & fundamental res in the soc sci field. Starting with a recapitulation of clearly internat'l efforts consisting in surveys of existing facilities by disciplines, regions & countries in diff cultural settings, as well as the publication of bibliographies & other documentary material, a bird's eye view is given of brief or long-term missions of soc sci'st's to diff parts of the world, & an assessment of 5 regional training & res centers founded by or under the auspices of UNESCO. An outline is presented of the main obstacles encountered in such endeavors for implanting diff soc sci disciplines in the academic circles of the developing countries. AA.
