The Voters Decide?: Preferential Voting in European List Systems
In: European journal of political research: official journal of the European Consortium for Political Research, Band 13, Heft 4, S. 365-378
Abstract
Electoral law in many European countries permits voters to indicate preferred candidates within a party list rather than only choosing between parties. The various voting arrangements that allow this, their utilization, & their possible consequences are examined. While voting of this type can be understood as a form of political participation, it is evident that patterns vary & consequences are uncertain, due to the complex interaction between the different elements in the electoral situation. 50 References.
