Abstract

Once, in what seems a long, long time ago, the author travelled to Cuba for the first time, invited to represent the solidarity of the millions of Americans who were wishing success to the young revolution. She would be bringing her songs to people from one end of the island to the other, and on TV too. Back home, the author would have been heading straight for Washington, DC, with her guitar. Finally, the author consoled herself with the fact that she was working for peace in a different way with her singing tour in the island. When the Cubans invited her to bring her peace songs to their own demonstration, she was excited and delighted. The Cuban press was making quite a big deal about her presence in the country, given that no other American singers had toured the country since the 1959 revolutionary victory.
