Abstract
The EU's policies regarding communication & information technologies are surveyed. The telecommunications industry was opened up to some competition in 1988 & to more in 1992; policies developed from 1994 to 2000 regulate newer technologies. An overview of developments that brought about the new EU policies examines technological innovations, the opening of the telecommunications market, & the growth of the information society. Current regulations are reviewed with respect to telecommunications, TV, new information technologies, & privacy. Implications of the new policies are explained concerning market activity, proposed electronic network regulations, & anticipated developments. 74 References. E. Taylor
