Abstract
The Thatcher re-elections of 1983 and '87 owed much to the 'Lawson boom' and the economic recovery engineered by Geoffrey Howe. Reviews the main economic problems which have confronted Thatcher and Major since 1989 and examines whether Norman Lamont is capable of ensuring the right economic circumstances in time for the next election. A very simple macroeconomic model explains 90% of government popularity variance. (SJK)
