Abstract
Provincial trends in the communist vote in Italy 1946-1983 are examined, through an ecological analysis of data. The organizational presence of the Italian Communist Party & the SE characteristics of the electorate are described. It is argued that in the 1970s, the communist vote differed from both previous & subsequent results not only quantitatively, but also qualitatively, inasmuch as it was characterized by different connotations & explanatory factors. 7 Tables, 4 Figures, 44 References.
