ETATS-UNIS: HEURS ET MALHEURS DU PARTI REPUBLICAIN
In: Politique internationale: pi, Band 135
Abstract
The die is cast. In all likelihood, Mitt Romney will be the Republican Party standard-bearer in the American presidential election of November 2012. The former governor of Massachusetts has a large lead in the primaries, and it would take an earth-shattering event for him to lose the nomination. And yet... instead of uniting around its probable candidate, and girding for battle against Barack Obama at the end of the year, the GOP continues to tear itself apart. Romney is widely perceived as an opportunist lacking charisma, and fails to generate any real enthusiasm. Under pressure from populists allied with the Tea Party, the Republican party continues to slide towards the right. And this trend could well play into Obama's hands later this year.
