SALARY DIFFERENTIALS AND COLLECTIVE ASSOCIATION AMONG COLLEGE TEACHERS, A THEORETICAL COMMENT
In: Social Science Quarterly, Band 38, Heft 2, S. 142-147
Abstract
The efficacy of trade-union activity among professional academics is discussed re the issue of salary diff'ials. 3 tables showing supply & demand configurations illustrate the possible combinations of (1) minimizing costs, (2) maximizing teaching quality, & (3) securing a mini-max optimum. 3 hyp'al cases are presented, each illustrating how the above goals might be achieved under dill sets of assumptions. These provide a theoretical basis for the argument that the effectiveness of collective action by Coll teachers to alter salary structures depends on specific elements within the supply schedules of diff types of teachers.
