Die Beziehung von Theorie und Praxis: Zivilgesellschaft, Nicht-Regierungsorganisationen und Entwicklungszusammenarbeit
In: Journal für Entwicklungspolitik, Band 17, Heft 2, S. 119-138
Abstract
This article analyzes the relationship between theory & practice in the field of development cooperation, focusing on the frequently underestimated importance of theory generation for praxis. The main critique is directed toward liberalism, which, in transforming itself from neo- to social liberalism, has become quite hegemonic. But even the liberal understanding of civil society & nongovernmental organizations as non-state actors is analytically & politically of limited usefulness. Concepts of political economy that view civil society as a politically & culturally hard-fought field contribute considerably more to the understanding of development processes. Liberal theory & practice of development cooperation are also analyzed in historical perspective. The article ends by criticizing & deconstructing the socioliberal concepts of focalization & poverty alleviation. 41 References. Adapted from the source document.
