Zwischen Distanz und Nahe. Zu alltagskulturellen Wurzeln ostdeutscher Burgerbewegungen
In: Neue soziale Bewegungen: Forschungsjournal, Band 8, Heft 4, S. 27-36
Abstract
Uses the concept of everyday culture & two biographical examples to analyze the development prospects for social movements in the former East Germany. It is contended that such movements are shaped & limited by three everyday cultural factors: (1) structures of political education that have emerged during the postcommunist transition; (2) specific social spaces (eg, Protestant churches, the cultural federation); & (3) a legacy of confrontational strategies that target political institutions. The examples of a woman active in women's & other social issues & a man involved in peace issues & the New Forum illustrate how these social movements are confined in their scope of emancipatory praxis by lack of public access & other problems. 6 References.
