INNOVATIONS AND TRENDS IN THE STUDY OF AMERICAN POLITICS

Abstract
3 signif trends of innovations in the recent literature of US pol & gov are reviewed: the large & ever-growing number of studies of pol'al soc'ization which have blossomed forth in the last half decade; the great increase in studies of Congress (esp those focusing on congressional committees, roll-call voting behavior, & congressional leadership) as compared to those of the executive branch; & the application of quantitative techniques in the comparative study of the policy out-puts of US state gov's. The substance of each of these distinct bodies of writing is surveyed & evaluated for its theoretical & methodological signif & for its contribution to the discipline's knowledge of the operations of the US pol'al system.
