Abstract

Suggests that prospects for American hegemony is not as bleak as suggested in the prevailing interpretations. Whether such hegemony is perceived as benevolent is another question: it need not go, for example, with international economic stability, as the evidence of most of the 1970s and 1980s makes clear.
