COWTOWN-METROPOLIS
In: Foreign affairs, Band xvii
Abstract
This is a case study of Fort Worth's transformation within 100 yrs from a frontier settlement & cowtown to a metropolis. There is a Foreword by Austin L. Porterfield. The book 'is designed primarily for the layman' & has 10 chpts & an index. Chpts (1) & (2) present the general approach of treating the community's development in terms of stages or levels which represent successive phases of relative equilibrium. Chpt (3) analyzes pop composition. Chpt (4) presents itra-city contrasts, while succeeding chpts consider specific phases of Fort Worth --econ life, housing, organized health & welfare, municipal gov, & educ. The final chpt, `What Makes a City Good?' attempts to develop a yardstick for evaluating communities. Many statistics & tables are presented as well as an index. S. F. Fava.
