Le tango, une "musique a danser" a l'epreuve de la reconstruction du bal
In: Civilisations: d'anthropologie et de sciences humaines, Band 53, S. 75-96
Abstract
Dance rather than music alone gave rise to the contemporary renaissance of tango in France. Through the creation of tango public dances and through the reconstruction of a dance culture shaped by the Buenos Aires milonga, dancers have revitalized the approach of this music genre: they initiated the discovery of this little-known heritage from the 40s, thus shifting the bands repertoire and developing a musical understanding connected to dance. The conditions of this revival, in which dance asserts its preeminence over music, question the implicit hierarchies of the expression dance music. Adapted from the source document.
