The Intifada comes to Duke
In: Commentary, Band 119, Heft 1, S. 56-58
Abstract
Criticizes the decision of Duke University's president to allow the annual conference of the Palestine Solidarity Movement (PSM), a group endorsing anti-Semitism and the use of violence to resolve the Arab-Israeli conflict in favor of the Palestinians, to take place on campus, and argues that the president's standard defense of his decision, that of dialogue in the name of free speech and education, is misguided and disingenuous. The university is also blamed for promoting an atmosphere in which anti-Semitic rhetoric was fostered both during the conference and in its aftermath. Portions of the conference are described and analyzed, as are related discussions appearing in campus media.
