PERSONALITY AND POLITICAL SOCIALIZATION

Abstract
To develop a theory about any particular problem one must examine the basic concepts which are to be employed, giving definition to those concepts, & think out the relationships between them. The result of this type of analysis is called a 'conceptual scheme' & it is from this type of scheme that hyp's are generated & the process of theory-building begins. This paper seeks to remedy the deficiency that exists of a conceptual scheme in the area of pol'al socialization. It considers the concepts of environment, personality,& behavior, & their interrelationships. Personality is seen as an intervening variable rather than a hyp'al construct, but some notion of it is essential. Empirical generalizations are needed which relate the personality to the environment, & another set of generalizations dealing with the influence environment has on behavior. An adequate explanation is needed of what types of personalities exhibit what kind of pol'ly relevant behavior. IPSA.
