Abstract
After discussing some existing concepts of leadership in social movements, this article presents a systematisation of key functions usually associated with leadership. The second part provides empirical examples to elucidate the necessity, relevance and problems of person-bound key functions. The author argues that the concept of leadership cannot adequately grasp the complex steering functions in social movements. It should therefore be given up in favour of a concept of multiple exposed key functions. Adapted from the source document
