Abstract

Ironic reflections are offered on the emergence of new forms of political awareness & expression in GB, with reference to the atmosphere of the 24 July 1994 protest march & rally against the Criminal Justice Bill. It is suggested that the new politics in GB is innovative & arresting, not only because of its eclecticism, but also because it challenges the assumptions Britains often make about themselves & others. The relationship between GB's new politics & the protest politics of the 1960s is discussed, & it is concluded that the new politics turn on a new kind of political spirituality that embraces the ideas of freedom, self-empowerment, personal expression, & the right to "party.".
