Economic Globalisation: Politics and Trade Policy in Ghana and Kenya

Abstract

This paper studies economic globalization in Ghana & Kenya by examining both the domestic national policy environment that mediates globalization & by measuring the nature & level of global engagement. Global engagement is measured in two ways: first, by indexing international business perceptions of the reform process, & second, by creating one of the first indexes of economic globalization by compiling data on economic flows such as foreign direct investment, multinational activity, etc. These analyses lead to the main conclusions that globalization is geographically differentiated & that the impact of economic globalization is a function of trade policy, institutional, & ethnic variables. 4 Tables.
