The response to the article by P.A. Orekhovsky and V.I. Razumov "The Onset of Narcissistic Culture: Consequences for Education, Science and Politics" is not a fully analytical review. It represents the result of certain empathy and it is also an attempt to articulate some thoughts generated by the reflection of modern social reality. The reviewed article was only the trigger for starting this work. Associations and intuitions, which appeared after reading of this article, indicate that the material presented by P.A. Orekhovsky and V.I. Razumov was able to bring the consciousness of a modern man out of the "comfort zone". This fact suggests that the material presented by these authors has high relevance, which immediately raises the relevance of all its reviews. Despite the fact that the article under consideration is more essayistic than scientific, the object of investigation is narcissistic culture in modern conditions, when, according to P.A. Orekhovsky and V.I. Razumov, postmodernism serves as a unique medium for its dissemination. The subject – some features of its influence on the human community, including its manifestations in our country. As a set of methods of research or consideration of the problem, we use a combination of general logical methods, the method of historical analogies, elements of a systematic approach, as well as elements of an approach to social phenomena from the perspective of reconstructed archaic consciousness, its principles and its values. The most general conclusions of reviewing the article by P.A. Orekhovsky and V.I. Razumov are that narcissistic culture is a relatively obsolete (do not mix it with 'archaic') variant of pathological social development. It gained new strength in the conditions of technological progress, the emergence (or rather, reproduction) of thinking, which in post-industrial society was defined as postmodern. During the recent political confrontation of social systems, it was used as an ideological weapon. It launched the processes that turned out to be poorly controlled and it can only be resisted from the standpoint of healthy conservatism and the promotion of traditional values.
Dans cet article nous décrivons la qualité de la participation sociale de dix jeunes adultes entendants âgés entre 25 et 35 ans ayant grandi avec deux parents sourds. Nous les avons invités à s'exprimer à l'intérieur d'une entrevue individuelle sur trois périodes de leur vie, soit l'entrée à l'école primaire, le début des études secondaires et la période actuelle, à propos de leur perception quant à divers domaines de leur vie : la communication, les responsabilités, les relations interpersonnelles, la vie communautaire, les études, le travail et les loisirs. Les résultats montrent que ces jeunes adultes ont agi comme interprètes très tôt dans leur enfance. Les situations d'interprétariat sont variées et les sentiments générés par rapport à ces situations sont négatifs ou positifs selon les périodes. Les répondants ont traité de difficultés, mais aussi des forces qu'ils ont acquises à grandir avec des parents sourds sur le plan des divers domaines de vie. Les résultats montrent que les répondants ont un sentiment d'appartenance à la communauté Sourde lorsqu'ils sont jeunes, mais on observe une diminution de ce sentiment avec le temps; il subsiste par ailleurs une certaine ambivalence, certains ne se sentant confortables ni dans le monde des Sourds ni dans celui des entendants.
Background: Among 12 to 17 year-olds, overweight and obesity rates have more than doubled in the past 25 years. In Quebec, the government initiatives that have been implemented to promote healthy behaviours among young people require the collaboration of many stakeholders. The objective of this study was to describe collaborative practice in secondary schools promoting healthy eating and physical activity.Methods and Findings: A descriptive multiple-case study was conducted in three Quebec secondary schools. The data collection methods consisted of a focus group, semi-structured individual interviews (21), observation of events involving collaboration among various school stakeholders (5), and document analysis (3). Qualitative analysis of intra-case and cross-case data carried out by more than one researcher helped identify emerging manifestations of collaborative practice.Conclusion: Committing to projects, accepting tasks, and consulting with colleagues are some of the actions identified in school-based activities promoting healthy lifestyles. This study sheds light on the importance of collaborative practice in the promotion of healthy lifestyles among young people in a school setting.
In the years since 1989, the societies of Russia and Eastern Europe have undergone a remarkable transformation from socialism to democracy and free market capitalism. Making an important contribution to the theoretical literature of urbanism and post-communist transition, this significant book considers the change in the spatial structure of post-Soviet urban spaces since the period of transition began. It argues that the era of transformation can be considered as largely complete, and that this has given way to a new stage of development as part of the global urban and economic system: post-transformation. The authors examine the modern trends in the urban development of western and post-socialist countries, and explore the theories of the transformation and post-transformation of urban space. Providing a wealth of detailed qualitative research on the Russian city of St. Petersburg, the study examines the changing structure of its retail trade and services sector. Overall, this book is an important step forward in the study of the spatial dynamics of urban transformation in the former communist world.
The aim of the research was to explore the factors conditioning the origin and development of selected sections of the Way of St. James within the territory of Visegrad Group countries. The cognitive aim of the research was to determine the correctness of the spatial route of the Way of St. James, as well as to present the phenomenon of dynamic development of Routes of St. James in the said countries. The creation of first sections of the Way of St. James in V4 countries was influenced by a number of geographical, historical, religious, economic, political, and socio-cultural factors. In the majority of marked routes of St. James in the studied area, the key factor was the entrepreneurial attitude of people who had completed pilgrimages along Camino de Santiago to Santiago de Compostela or who had come in contact with pilgrims themselves. It was only on further stages of development of the Way of St. James in individual regions that Camino projects were backed by regional authorities together with church authorities. The research shows that the most intensive development of the Way of St. James and initiatives connected with Camino de Santiago can be seen in Poland.
