However, once this is done, it would not make sense not to use this content for on-campus classes. In this paper, we will explain how to harness top content created for MOOCs to improve on-campus classes, where the personal interaction is a key added feature. In 2013 the European Commission presented a draft directive calling for member states to increase the presence of women on corporate boards. Some countries, such as France, have taken a quota approach by passing legislation requiring corporations to increase the numbers of women on their boards over time, while the governments of other states, such as the United Kingdom, have preferred measures to encourage corporations to have more inclusive boards. While there is a growing literature on the impact that an increased presence of women can have on corporate boards, as well as a solid feminist literature on the role of quotas in political structures, there has been relatively little attention to the specific ways in which political actors have viewed the question of women on corporate boards. This article compares the ways in which quotas for women in corporate boards have been examined by the legislatures of the United Kingdom and France, with attention also to parliamentary debates in Canada and Russia. It is hypothesized that variations in political discourse help explain why conservative governments adopted such different approaches toward gender balance on corporate boards.

The European Commission highlights that creating shared values and democratic citizenship is a today's requirement to answer challenges of urbanization in Europe. The awareness about the necessity of inclusion of vulnerable groups such as elderly or migrants is still a substantial deficit in research on inclusion. As a matter of principle, future cannot be forecasted. The most effective way to foresee future is to jointly shape it! The Participatory Citizen-Foresight offers a neutral transformation-room and multi-method coordination- framework for detecting accessible and tacit-knowledge for change. In co-creation citizens, experts and Civil-Servants gain insights into complex interdependencies allowing mutual learning and behavior in rehearsal for transition. Society is in need of powerful, collective pictures serving self-confidence and self-responsibility of citizens. First, we describe the specific, participatory-foresight approach. Second, we highlight preconditions for learning and societal change based on constructivism and brain research. Third, we show how this can work in reality by shortly outlining two Citizen- Foresight cases with elderlies and, fourth, we derive selection- criteria for methods aiming at transforming mental images, maps and behaviour.

Six by-products are used as additives in adobe bricks to study the variability of mechanical properties by a three level design of experiments and to evaluate optima formulations. Corn plant, fescue, straw, and grounded olive stones are agricultural by-products; and rubber crumbs and polyurethane are wastes used as transport and appliances by-products. Results show that the three-level design of experiments defines properly the governing equations of flexural and compression strength, furthermore it shows the interaction between them. This paper proposes a new method for leak localization in water distribution networks (WDNs). In a first stage, residuals are obtained by comparing pressure measurements with the estimations provided by a WDN model. In a second stage, a classifier is applied to the residuals with the aim of determining the leak location. The classifier is trained with data generated by simulation of the WDN under different leak scenarios and uncertainty conditions. The proposed method is tested both by using synthetic and experimental data with real WDNs of different sizes. In this work we present a semantic framework suitable of being used as support tool for recommender systems. Our purpose is to use the semantic information provided by a set of integrated resources to enrich texts by conducting different NLP tasks: WSD, domain classification, semantic similarities and sentiment analysis. After obtaining the textual semantic enrichment we would be able to recommend similar content or even to rate texts according to different dimensions. First of all, we describe the main characteristics of the semantic integrated resources with an exhaustive evaluation. Next, we demonstrate the usefulness of our resource in different NLP tasks and campaigns. Moreover, we present a combination of different NLP approaches that provide enough knowledge for being used as support tool for recommender systems. The ability to establish switchable site-selectivity through catalyst control in the direct functionalization of molecules that contain distinct C-H bonds remains a demanding challenge that would enable the construction of diverse scaffolds from the same starting materials. Herein we describe the realization of this goal, namely a divergent heteroaryl/aryl C-H functionalization of aromatic picolinamide derivatives, targeting two distinct C-H sites, either at the pyridine ring or at the arene unit, to afford isoquinoline or ortho-olefinated benzylamine (or phenethylamine) derivatives. This complementary reactivity has been achieved on the basis of a RhIII/RhI switch in the catalyst, resulting in different mechanistic outcomes. A critical review of the Argentinian, Uruguayan, and Paraguayan species of Acalypha L. (Euphorbiaceae) is presented. As a result, 18 species (22 taxa) are accepted, 16 from Argentina, 12 from Paraguay, and five from Uruguay, and 49 names are considered as synonyms. Typifications are provided for A. brasiliensis Müll. Arg., A. cordobensis Müll. Arg., A. friesii Pax & K. Hoffm., A. gracilis Spreng., A. nitschkeana Pax & K. Hoffm., A. multicaulis Müll. Arg. var. glabrescens Pax & K. Hoffm., A. Lagoensis Müll. Arg. var. grandifolia Chodat & Hassl., and A. striolata Lingelsh. En la última década, los estudios de innovación han incorporado nuevas perspectivas gracias a nuevos conceptos, tales como la innovación inclusiva (Guth, 2005; Heeks, Kintu, & Sjah, 2013; Nijhof, Fisscher, & Looise, 2002; OECD, 2013, 2015), la innovación frugal (Basu, Banerjee, & Sweeny, 2013; Bhatti, 2012; Rao, 2013; Zeschky, Widenmayer, & Gassmann, 2011), la innovación social (Adams & Hess, 2010; Cajaiba-Santana, 2014; Castro-Spila & Unceta, 2015; European Commission, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013), la innovación responsable (Hellström, 2003; Owen & Goldberg, 2010; Stilgoe, Owen, & Macnaghten, 2013; Von Schomberg, 2013) y la innovación abierta (H. Chesbrough, 2003; H. Chesbrough, 2004, 2006; O. Gassmann & Enkel, 2004; Oliver Gassmann, Enkel, & Chesbrough, 2010). Estas conceptualizaciones rompen con el esquema lineal de la innovación y con el ámbito exclusivo de la innovación basada en la investigación y desarrollo en el campo empresarial. Así, emerge con fuerza en los estudios de innovación una apertura hacia una visión distribuida del conocimiento, una pluralidad de agencias innovadoras y una concreta preocupación por la responsabilidad y por la inclusión de los más desfavorecidos.

Tuberculosis, with million new cases every year, still represents a worldwide health threat. This infectious disease is caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis and affects primarily the lungs, although it can spread to other organs. The peculiar mycobacterial cell wall makes these bacteria resistant to most of the antibiotics and for this reason the first-line effective drugs now available date back to several decades ago. The recent appearance of drug-resistant strains makes the search for new antitubercular therapies more and more urgent. In the framework of a research network funded by the European Commission, a novel class of antitubercular agents, the benzothiazinones (BTZs), were discovered in 2009, which led to the identification of a new enzyme target that is involved in the biosynthesis of the mycobacterial cell wall. This enzyme is the decaprenylphosphoryl-β-D-ribose 2´epimerase (DprE1) which catalyzes an essential step in the biosynthesis of arabinogalactan, one of the mycobacterial cell components. We carried out a thorough biochemical and structural characterization of DprE1 from M. smegmatis with the aim to investigate BTZ mode of action and provide hints for drug optimization.
