By comparing the successive development, government planning, and public expectations of two landmark historical and cultural districts in F city, this paper attempts to explore the state's selection and cultural setting of heritage spaces, as well as the identity transfer of local residents in individual memory and collective creation. With case studies on historical districts of S and Y neighborhoods, this paper argues that the selection of heritage spaces is actually a borrowing of local history and culture by the state's modernization tendency. With the extinction/reformation of the medium of identity, the aborigines struggle with disappearance of their place and the affirmation of heritage, eventually extending the boundaries of the meaning of "place" and shifting local identity to national and ethnic identity.

This dissertation analyzes the impact that European Union law has had upon Cyprus law, focusing on the problems that arose after the financial crisis and how EU law can be used as a vehicle for dealing with problems of over-indebtedness. Contract law and civil procedure in Cyprus are only now experiencing major processes of transformation as a result of the financial crisis and the claims that reach courts, despite acceding to the EU 17 years ago. EU accession was initially seen by many as an opportunity for reform and modernization of the legal system, however, in certain areas of the law this was only realized, as a result of the problems caused by over-indebtedness and the lack of specific institutions to deal with such problems.

AbstractAbu Dhabi's transformation to a modern society in recent decades provides an ideal context to explore the interplay of tradition, transition, and modernization at various levels, which shapes the trajectory of the development of social trust. This study offers multilevel analyses of the effects of social, psychological, and ethnical factors on social trust by using data from Abu Dhabi General Social Survey conducted in 2018. The results sustain the validity of both social capital and social network theories in explaining social trust. Contrary to the findings in other Middle East countries, in Abu Dhabi, the full‐time employed and people who are more satisfied with their household income tend to show a higher level of trust. A negative but insignificant relationship is found between community ethnic fragmentation and social trust.

Abstract
The article adopts an approach to the history of Belarus', which plays with imaginations. It opens up two vistas concerning the past that are marked by fictional texts. The former belongs to developments before World War I and is connected with a short story by Jakub Kolas, whereas the latter attends to events of World War II and is related to a novel by Jerzy Kosiński. In both cases supplements to the main texts offer insights into Soviet history, on the one hand into the era of revolutionary culture of the 1920s, and on the other hand into the political thaw of the 1950s. The result is an illustration of the metamorphoses that took place in the transitional region of Central and Eastern Europe in the process of Soviet modernization.

AbstractIsland studies play an important role in the development of anthropology. It is of academic value and practical significance to understand the island world as the field where multiple modernization forces and globalization interwine. This paper explores the intricate and diverse connections between continental and marine culture from a perspective of "viewing the world through the island". In terms of overall diversity and exoteric mobility, this paper reviews the various aspects of island studies, examines the internal and external transformation of islands within land-sea interaction, and analyzes the dynamic historical process of the island world's involvement in the global network, which blends and integrates various cultural elements of the external world. In the context of globalization, the island world is undergoing dramatic changes and in coping with them generating its new features.

The need for economic colonization of the outskirts and modernization of the economy of the population of the acquired territories compelled the Russian authorities to turn to the practice of attracting foreign colonists. In the reign of Alexander I, German colonies, founded by immigrants from the Kingdom of Wurttemberg, appeared in Transcaucasia. The settles adapted to new living conditions by the 1850s. Due to overcoming the initial isolation, they had a positive impact on the economic life of the surrounding population, contributing to the development of certain branches of agriculture. The authors used not only the before published sources and materials, but also documents from collections of the Russian State Historical Archive, some of which are being introduced into scientific circulation for the first time.

Analysis and comparison were carried out for evaporator stations having a 4th effect consisting either of two falling-film type vessels or two vessels of different designs – one Robert and one falling-film. The influence of the order, in which two apparatuses are installed in a serial layout in the 4th effect on the evaporation efficiency was analysed. A 4th effect consisting of 2 vessels was also compared to a 4th effect consisting of one vessel. The characteristics of 4th effect with one apparatus are used as a reference point for this analysis.
Significant differences were found in the heat exchange efficiency of the analysed variants. It is worth carrying out an analysis when designing the modernization/extension of an evaporator station in order to obtain an optimal layout under specific conditions.

The article is a review of the book named in the title. According to the reviewer, the author of the monograph is highly qualified: 1) considers a complex set of issues of management modernization in domestic integrated companies; 2) develops a historical overview of the formation of large corporate business in post-Soviet Russia, systematizes its current problems; 3) describes the conceptual features of management of integrated corporate structures (ICS); 4) substantiates. practical recommendations for improving the management of ICS and public management of the development of the sector of these structures. The reviewer's reflections on the book are summarized in the thesis about its high value for business circles and the scientific and educational community of the country, for state and local government bodies.

Abstract: This paper intends to shed light on the status of women in Nongkhlaw Syiemship, Meghalaya and their role in different socio – political institutions of their day-to-day life which includes the main basic institutions of family, , and role in economic process, religion, and participation of women in politics. Facts and information collected through oral tradition, fieldtrip interviews and observation have unveiled the position of women from past to present and how it changed from time to time with modernization and globalization. As this era has impacted each and every corner of the world, the role and status of women of Hima (petty state) Nongkhlaw also flowed simultaneously in the river of changes and transformation. The role of women did not remain static as before especially with the influence of Christianity.

There is a gap between the elusive concept of Beijing Consensus and China's effective practices to promote economic growth at home and in other countries. This article aims to expound this phenomenon by examining both the rationale underlying China's structural transformation and the corresponding practices in development cooperation. Using a case study on the evolution of infrastructure construction within China and abroad, this article argues that China's success has little to do with a new pattern of state capitalism, but rather presents a different manner of understanding and facilitating modernization. Target-oriented non-linear synergism can drive comprehensive transformation more effectively in developing countries than model-oriented linear mechanism. With a consistent goal, the pragmatic thinking enables multiple stakeholders to coevolve in diverse contexts through open attitude. (J Contemp China/GIGA)

The purpose of this article is to demonstrate that the wave of socio-political transformations that began in December 2010 in Tunisia and Algeria, called the "Arab Spring", was a phenomenon caused by a difficult internal situation, as well as internal and external factors that triggered these events. The article examines the degree of influence of political Islam on the processes of modernization, geopolitics, as well as socio-political development, including the need to create a scientific basis for regulating religious relations in Arab African countries, which have become a source of instability. In this context, political processes in North Africa and the Middle East are studied. The processes of social and political transformations have influenced the political systems of Tunisia, Egypt, Libya and other Gulf countries.

From the Statute of Anne in 1710 to Music Modernization Act in the U.S. and Article 17 in the European Union in 2018, several conventions held up until this date, but there are still issues or even more issues emerging in the music industries. On the other hand, digital technologies have been rapidly growing with the advent and access of the internet, which has dramatically reformed traditional music business models. Even after the successful shut down of Napster by RIAA, the music industries are continuously facing substantial economic losses every year due to evolving digital piracy.

In the modern Arab world, the search of modernization ways, the forming of state political ideologies as well as creative economical conceptions are still based on the old Muslim tradition. There are 6 schools to be considered. All these schools have significantly influenced both the social structure of the Arab States and people behavior even since the Middle Ages. The common sign of all these schools as well as their strong difference from European philosophy pragmatism is undoubtedly priority of moral and ethic principles over material ones, condemnation of mercantilism and individualism. Thus, the concepts and strategies of Muslim states considering some utopian traditions are essentially national and original, but in any case, they are to be considered as anti-globalist tensions.
