CER Comparative European Research 2016 Proceedings | Research Track of the 6th Biannual CER Comparative European Research Conference International Scientific Conference for Ph.D. students of EU countries October 24-27, 2016 | London ; The article aims to identify dependencies between the central bank's interest rate and GDP dynamics in selected economies and to highlight the risks of a zero bound interest rate policy for an economy. The hypothesis that the main interest rates and GDP dynamics in the euro area, USA and Poland are statistically significantly related to each other was confirmed. The purpose of the article was accomplished using the following methods: a review of the scientific literature, the presentation of pertinent statistical data and statistical analysis. Its findings imply that although a low cost of money can stimulate a country's economy, prolonged periods of zero bound interest rates can be a threat to economic expansion.

Many African states are involved in the frontline discourse on the fight for gender equality through the adoption of public policies, aiming to improve the lives of women through social, economic, and political development. In Nigeria, despite the adoption of Article 42 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 adapted from the United Nations principles of gender equality, which provides for equality and elimination of all forms of discrimination against women, the Nigerian state still struggles with different forms of gendered marginalisation issues against women in various aspects of Nigerian society; these issues are mainly due to cultural, economic, and legislative challenges. Therefore, this article explores how gender is recognized through public policy programmes and initiatives using a qualitative content analysis of relevant policy documents. The documents were collected from various government ministries and cover policy areas that represent entrepreneurship and economic activities in Nigeria between 2000 and 2020. The analysis confirms the recognition of gender in public policies by subjective bias and mediating access to education for female gender advancement in Nigerian society. Some gender gaps were also recognized and discussed in the article.

Survey of the Malaysian rubber sector and poverty trends 1970-83 and the NEP (new economic policy) trusteeship system with special reference to FELDA (Federal Land Development Agency). The paper concludes that in Malaysia, despite policy declarations under the NEP strategy, poverty in the rubber sector has not been eradicated. (DÜI-Sen)

The East Asian Economic Review is an economic journal, for the promotion of interdisciplinary research on international economics. Published as a quarterly by the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy, a Korean government-funded economic think-tank, the journal is global in perspective and covers both theory and empirical research. The Journal aims to facilitate greater understanding of all issues pertinent to diverse economies of East Asia through publication of rigorous analyses by renowned experts in the field. The EAER connects policy and theory, providing empirical analyses and practical policy suggestions for the economies in the region. THE AUTHORS NOTE THAT A NUMBER OF ECONOMIC MODELS HAVE BEEN USED TO ESTIMATE THE ECONOMIC LOSSES RESULTING FROM OIL EMBARGOES, BUT GOOD ANSWERS HAVE NOT BEEN PROVIDED ABOUT HOW QUICKLY AN ECONOMY WOULD RECOVER ONCE THE EMBARGO IS ENDED. THEY USE PHASE LAG ANALYSIS TO ESTIMATE THE LAG STRUCTURE OF AN EMBARGO AND CONCLUDE MAJOR ECONOMIC EFFECTS SHOULD DISAPPEAR ABOUT 6 WEEKS AFTER AN EMBARGO ENDS.

International audience ; The Front National (FN) has made an impressive come back into France's electoral politics since 2012. Adopting a supply-side approach, this article places the electoral rejuvenation of the FN in the context of the global crisis and looks at how the party has adapted programmatically to socio-economic demands emerging from this context. On the basis of manifesto data analysis, we find that despite having recently broadened its economic programme, the FN maintains a niche status in the party system. Our findings show, however, that the party has significantly shifted its economic platform, moving from a predominantly right-wing to a left-wing location since the mid-1980s. This move is characterized by an increase in egalitarian and nationalist economic policies, espousing also a populist framework. The reconfiguration of the FN suggests that the party may have moved to a pivotal position in recent years by converging around the economic preferences of the median voter. We discuss the role of internal and external factors in explaining the economic policy shift by the FN, and consider possible implications of our findings for understanding current populist radical right electoral dynamics in Europe.
