"This book presents the findings of a ten-year longitudinal study on the experience of Chinese immigrants from Wenzhou in Paris. The author examines the impact of the evolving spaces people from Wenzhou have built for themselves in the French capital, both within immigrant communities and French society at large. The study discovers that over the course of a decade, immigrants from Wenzhou in Paris have experienced notable changes in the industries they work in, where they live, their organizational structure, how they interact with one another and their inter-generational dynamics. This book investigates four specific spaces: economic, social, cultural, and policy-related, all of which emerge from immigrants' integration into local society and in turn impact their own integration. The author aims to reveal the paths and mechanisms of the community and how their social spaces have been constructed while the production mechanism of society from the theoretical point of view is also explored. The book will be of interest to scholars and students of Sociology, Immigration Studies and East Asian Studies. It will also be an essential reading for those who are interested in Chinese immigration in general"--
This book explores the determination of China's carbon emission targets, especially with regard to the allocation of responsibility of China's import and export carbon emissions, and carbon emission quota allocations across different time periods, industries, and regions.Research outside of China tends to focus on methods and approaches of carbon emission reduction policies and the impact of their implementation. Instead, within China, the focus has been on discussion of the necessity and conditions for China's development of a low-carbon economy as well as its introduction as a concept in the light of overseas comparisons. This book utilizes game theory, mechanism design, input-output theory, econometric theory and other methods to scrutinize China's carbon emissions and carbon emissions targets across different periods, industries, and regions. The result is a detailed theoretical and empirical investigation of carbon emission issues in the Chinese context. The book will be essential reading for students and scholars of economics, especially those with a focus on Chinese economic development and policymakers in the low-carbon economy sphere

"Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are increasingly viewed as valuable contributors to the global economy, which translates into their importance in business literature and academic research. Recent studies suggest that there exists a substantial variety of international activities pursued by SMEs expanding abroad, with a prominent presence of early internationalised enterprises, including born global. Despite the acknowledgement of the importance of human capital for SME internationalisation, there is a persistent knowledge gap concerning HR practices in this context. Until now, researchers investigating the accelerated internationalisation of SMEs have focused either on the human capital of decision-makers or selected attributes of employees, although these have only been at the pre-entry or entry stages. Thus, activities performed after entering foreign markets remain. This book attempts to reduce this gap and contribute to the body of knowledge concerning HR practices in early internationalised SMEs with an emphasis on the post-entry phase. By taking such an approach, this volume integrates two streams of research: HRM in the SMEs and international business. It provides managers of SMEs with useful information on dealing with internationalisation-related challenges by means of various practices including work structuring, recruitment and selection, training and development, employee appraisal and remuneration, and performance management. The discussion of these issues is based upon data from a survey conducted in 200 SMEs and case studies exemplifying HR practices in early internationalised small and medium enterprises. It offers academic researchers, postgraduate students, and reflective practitioners a state-of-the-art overview of managing human resources in small and medium enterprises expanding internationally, including both accelerated and incremental paths"--
China was the world's leading superpower for almost two millennia, falling behind only in the last two centuries and now rising to dominance again. What factors led to imperial China's decline? This book offers a systematic look at the Chinese state from the seventh century through to the twentieth.
This text explores God's use of violence as depicted in the Hebrew Bible. Ophir shows how the Bible's varied formations of divine violence anticipate the main outlines of the modern European state. A critique of the modern state, the book argues, must begin in unpacking its mostly repressed theological dimension.

"This book offers an ethnographic exploration of the role that atmosphere plays in work processes undertaken within an urban design studio. It provides understandings of how architectural practices are fueled with atmosphere in various configurations throughout different design phases of selected projects for construction. From the outside architectural practices commonly appear well-ordered and carefully considered, established by proof and rationally justified. This book though poaches on architects' preserves in order to draw attention to features of unpredictability and uncertainty within the design phases. By opening up into the 'machinery room' of urban designers the goal is not to spoil the plaster saint cover of a 'starchitect' business, but to remind about the crucial value that pockets of doubt issuing questions rather than answers, open-mindedness instead of single-mindedness, play to the processes of design production and creativity. The book identifies these pockets as atmospheres enveloping the architectural practice"--

"In this volume, I discuss the topic of being able to speak two or more languages from three different orientations: bilingualism, bilinguality, and bilingual education. Bilingualism is more theory-oriented discussed at three levels: the individual level, the societal and institutional level, and the national and international level. Bilinguality, on the other hand, focuses more on the cognitive and neuro-linguistic parts of language function. That is, how bilinguals function in their brain while dealing with two or more languages. Finally, bilingual education presents the practical part of how language learning and acquisition is arranged in different areas of the globe based on their historical backgrounds and language policies. Detailed sub-topics will be introduced in the Introduction part"--
