Today's education is at an exciting crossroads; the adaptation of the teaching - learning processes to the society of the XXI century and to appropriate reality from the extension of its contemporaries Digital Educational Resources. It is an easy fact to verify that the impact of social changes has necessarily reached the educational environment. In the Program of the subject History of Cuba, for the Computer Science Engineering career, teachers are oriented to lead students towards scientific knowledge, human and political values, transform their own teaching-learning process, appropriate their cultural heritage. The teacher has the responsibility of appropriating technologies to design and use digital educational resources that support and facilitate the process. This work aims to present a methodological guide for the selection, design and evaluation of the Digital Educational Resources of the subject History of Cuba at the University of Computer Sciences. For its realization, the historical - logical, analytical - synthetic, inductive deductive, content analysis and functional structural system were used as methods. The designs of these resources must be adapted to the possibilities of each institution, making the most of the potential of the support. Their evaluation should not be limited solely to examining their characteristics, but in order for them to be truly effective in the didactic process, both the context in which they are to be used and their influence on student learning must be taken into account. ; La Educación actual se encuentra en una apasionante encrucijada; la adaptación de los procesos de enseñanza - aprendizaje a la sociedad del siglo XXI y apropiarse de la realidad desde la extensión de sus contemporáneos Recursos Educativos Digitales. Es un hecho fácil de constatar que el impacto de los cambios sociales ha llegado necesariamente al entorno educativo. En el Programa de la disciplina Historia de Cuba, para la carrera Ingeniería en Ciencias Informáticas, se orienta a los docentes a conducir a los estudiantes hacia el conocimiento científico, valores humanos y políticos, transformar su propio proceso de enseñanza – aprendizaje, apropiarse de su herencia cultural. El docente tiene la responsabilidad de apropiarse de las tecnologías para diseñar y utilizar recursos educativos digitales que apoyen y faciliten el proceso. Este trabajo tiene como objetivo presentar una Guía metodológica para la elección, diseño y evaluación de Recursos Educativos Digitales de la disciplina Historia de Cuba en la Universidad de las Ciencias Informáticas. Para su realización se utilizaron como métodos el histórico – lógico, el analítico – sintético, el inductivo deductivo, el análisis de contenido y el sistémico estructural funcional. Los diseños de estos recursos deben adecuarse a las posibilidades de cada institución aprovechando al máximo las potencialidades del soporte. La evaluación de los mismos no debe limitarse únicamente a examinar sus características, sino que para que realmente sean efectivos en el proceso didáctico, debe tenerse en cuenta tanto el contexto en el que van a utilizarse como su influencia sobre el aprendizaje de los estudiantes.

Рассмотрено демографическое развитие мещанского сословия и его место в социально-сословной структуре населения городов и уездов Камско-Вятского региона (Глазовский, Ела-бужский, Малмыжский, Сарапульский уезды). Проанализированы основные источники и фак­торы изменения численности представителей мещанского сословия. Выявлен ряд тенденций, свойственных демографическим процессам в среде мещан. Отмечены общие и отличительные признаки демографического развития мещанского сословия региона и России в целом. ; The Great Reforms opened a new stage of socio-economic development of Russia. Cities began to actively de­velop into trading, industrial, and cultural centres. The estate of Meshchanstvo, the basis of urban population, became the core of this phenomenon. During the second half of the XIX century the Meshchanstvo's population had been growing, yet its percentage in town population in current numbers went down from 50.7% to 39.9%. These numbers were greatly influenced by various social effects both in terms of rise and decline. The reason of the growth of the Meshchanstvo's population was the inflow of: peasants, the meshchane from neighboring towns, bankrupt mer­chants, military retirees and clergy. At the same time, the meshchane themselves tended to move to countryside, par­ticipate in interurban immigration, acquire merchant status, honored citizenry or clergy status or to get an official appointment or graduation. All those situations caused the decline of the Meshchanstvo's population. The meshchane remained a significant component of urban society until the very abrogation of estate system on November 24th, 1918. As its integral part, they were in constant contact with urban elite as well as marginalized elements. Another specific factor of the analyzed region was moving of former workmen to factory settlements after the abolition of 33 А. В. Ушаков serfdom which led to a new wave of migration to towns. In general, Kama-Vyatka region was affected by the 1860-70s legislation in a way of shifting social structure into devaluation of estate status.

The reign of King Chulalongkorn, conventionally regarded as the turning point in Thailand's political development, is also understood as offering a paradigm for social history. In particular it set down standards for appreciating courtly female behaviour which entailed political submission and passivity — attitudes championed by conservative elements during the 1970s. This article argues that palace women in fact did have their own understanding of the changing world and made efforts to better their lives by moving beyond what was prescribed for them.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to integrate conflict theory's class and race perspectives to explain police force size in large cities in the USA.Design/methodology/approachData on US cities with populations of 250,000 or greater (n=64) are used to test whether class and/or racial factors impact police force size. The data are analyzed using OLS regression.FindingsThis study finds that class and race factors combine to impact police force size concurrently. By adjusting the model specifications of a recent article, which concludes police force size in large US cities is determined by racial factors and not class, this study shows that two class‐related factors – racial economic inequality and poverty – significantly influence police force size. Additionally, this analysis calls into question the importance of racial factors; specifically, the threat caused by minority presence and a city's history of racially coded violence.Originality/valueFew conflict theorists have attempted to integrate class and race in order to explain police force size. The results of this study show that racial economic inequality interacts with poverty (class threat) and that they jointly affect police force size. This adds further nuance to the argument of the complex causal interaction of intersectionality and supports theoretical, methodological, and public policy shifts that blend class inequality and racial threat to explain police force size.

James Flath's The Cult of Happiness is a stimulating and accessible book that contributes to more than one area of current concern in Chinese studies. The author effectively situates his work in relation to developing debates about print culture, alternative conceptions or experiences of modernity, and the relationship of popular culture to markets and to state power. It should also appeal to readers interested more generally in modern Chinese art, history and visual culture.In this general vein, the book would be valuable simply as one of only a very few English-language works that deal with woodcut-printed nianhua or New Year's Pictures. These pictures, which depict a range of subjects from gods to auspiciously fat babies to scenes from legend and history, were a ubiquitous part of Chinese household ritual and decoration well into the 20th century, and are still evoked in a variety of contexts in contemporary Chinese visual culture. For various reasons, they have not received as much scholarly attention as they should, especially in comparison to other popular print traditions, such as their distant Japanese cousins, ukiyo-e prints. As a genre, nianhua are believed to have quite a long history (Chinese sources, for example, often identify a print found in a 12th-century tomb as one of the earliest extent nianhua), and they were certainly made and circulated throughout China. Flath, however, wisely limits his study both temporally and geographically by focusing on the last decades of the 19th century and the first half of the 20th, when the vast majority of nianhua now extant were made, and on north China, which encompasses several of the most influential and best-documented centres of nianhua production.
