The paper investigates how the spatial evolution of core-based city regions affects the dynamics of income disparities across Metropolitan Statistical Areas in the United States between 1971 and 2010. Treating initially non-metropolitan counties as part of the functional economic system for the whole time period changes the internal composition of average per capita personal income thus biasing convergence analysis. The paper analyses the dynamics of the cross-sectional distribution of per capita personal income by comparing different methods to define MSAs over time. The results show that a cluster of high income economies emerges when MSAs are allowed to evolve spatially.

The 1990s saw a shift to the left in Latin American politics. However, there no studies comprehensively analyze political ideology and its determinants in Latin America during and after this period. Using survey data from 1996-2010, this paper makes two contributions. First, it finds that political ideology is determined by subjective perceptions on the state of the economy and society. Second, it finds that the probability of being more leftist has not significantly increased. Two theories that argue that political outcomes do not necessarily reflect the political ideology of the median voter are reviewed to explain the findings.

Am Beispiel der Aufführung des Stückes "Rose is a rose is a rose is a rose" am ZKM (Zagrebačko kazalište mladih) in Zagreb 2010 und mit Seitenblicken auf den Theatertext "Prizori s jabukom" (Szenen mit Apfel, 2009), wird hier der Postdramatik Ivana Sajkos nachgegangen. Sajko verwendet den vor allem durch den Frankfurter Theaterwissenschaftler Hans-Thies Lehmann etablierten Begriff des "Postdramatischen Theaters" in der Selbstbeschreibung ihrer Theaterarbeit, ohne diesen dogmatisch im Sinne einer vollständigen Überwindung des Dramatischen zu verstehen. Isotonie und Stimme (Lautlichkeit) näher erfasst und zugleich vor dem Hintergrund der nach-jugoslawischen Gesellschaften gelesen werden. Die Wirksamkeit von Sajkos Theater auf der theatron-Achse - jener Achse, die zwischen Bühne und Zuschauerraum verläuft - soll ausgewiesen und am Beispiel der genannten Stücke die Frage nach dem Politischen des Postdramatischen Theaters diskutiert werden. Im nach jugoslawischen Raum scheint gerade das Politische des zeitgenössischen Theaters, das sich in konkreten Aufführungssituationen in physischer Anwesenheit eines Publikums 'materialisiert', besondere Bedeutung für die Nachkriegsgesellschaften und deren Vergangenheitsbewältigung zu erlangen.

In this paper I check the ethical pulse of Further Education at the moment of its coming of age. Using a philosophical lens, I select and review post-2010 literature, to argue that FE colleges persist in a diminished form within a learning economy. In response to the managerial onslaught, the sector has adopted an ethics of survival, a necessary response to austerity and deregulation. Twenty-one years after incorporation, ethical fading has purged ethical desire from educational discourse while the endless banality of college life has corroded the language with which it might be possible to speak about educational purpose, value, utopia, democracy, equity and vision.

Paper deals with the analysis of the impact of social capital on the democratic transition in countries of post-Soviet Eurasia. Social capital is considered as a multidimensional concept with generalized trust, interpersonal trust, confidence in social and political institutions, organizational membership and social norms considered as its main components. The data used for the analysis comprises from the World Values Survey wave 6 (2010-2014), with Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Ukraine and Uzbekistan being included into the analysis. Multivariate analysis is used to define the domains of life and spheres of public life which are affected by social capital.

Economic hardship accompanying large recessions can lead families to terminate unplanned pregnancies. To assess whether abortions have risen during the recession, we collected crude abortion data from 2000 to 2012 from Eurostat for countries that had legal abortions and complete data. Declining trends in abortion ratios between 2000 and 2009 have been reversing. Excess abortions between 2010 and 2012 totaled 10.6 abortions per 1000 pregnancies ending in abortion or birth or 6701 additional abortions (95% CI 1190-9240) with stronger effects in younger ages. Economic shocks may increase recourse to abortion. Further research should explore causal pathways and protective factors.

The "traditional" media also had big digital plans - both to engage disenchanted voters and grab crucial audience share. So did we engage? Este artículo indaga la relación entre el empleo y el grado de confianza en acceder a favores/ayuda con datos de la Encuesta Nacional de Ingresos y Gastos de los Hogares de 2008, 2010 y 2012. Los resultados indican que el empleo estable y protegido se vincula a grados más elevados de confianza y que la precariedad laboral se asocia a una menor confianza en el acceso al intercambio de favores. El dinero y el tiempo son recursos clave para participar en dos distintos circuitos de ayuda: el de los favores monetarios y el de las permutas de ayuda en forma de cuidados.

This paper examines the sources of real exchange rate fluctuations in Sudan using Structure Vector Autoregressive technique, over the period 1979–2010. The analysis has focused on the impact of three macroeconomics shocks on fluctuations of real exchange rate, namely, supply, real demand and nominal shocks. The result shows that the real demand shocks play a significant role in explaining the variations in real exchange rate. This implies that the real demand factors such as, government spending and money supply are the major sources of depreciation of real exchange rate. By contrast, supply shocks and nominal shocks have small impact of real exchange rate.

The recent global financial crisis represents a serious threat to the growth
of economies. This crisis deeply affects the real economy through a
phenomenon known as the wealth effect, which assumes that a fall in wealth
leads to a reduction of private consumption. Thus, this paper analyzes the
wealth effect on consumption using quarterly macro-data for 10 Eurozone
countries in the period 2000-2010. The results suggest the existence of a
positive and significant wealth effect on consumption with the predominance
of a financial effect on housing, showing larger consumption sensitivity to
changes in the value of financial assets.

O trabalho propõe uma análise comparativa dos formatos impresso e online do Jornal do Brasil (JB), a fim de investigar as transformações no perfil editorial do periódico a partir de sua transição definitiva para a plataforma digital, que ocorreu em 2010. Ao todo, foram analisadas 14 publicações do JB, entre impressas e digitais, buscando uma análise comparativa das edições nas duas mídias. O presente artigo apresenta um resgate da história do JB. Além disso, expõe a análise descritiva, com base nos indicadores de identidade levantados em revisão bibliográfica específica e, posteriormente, apresenta os resultados obtidos, tecendo comparações entre os formatos.

Given that most national executives have been men, it is a commonplace to observe that access to executive power is gendered. Men have historically served as heads of government, and few women have been presidents or prime ministers. Women's numbers are increasing, however, as is research focusing on women who have achieved national executive leadership (e.g., Jalalzai 2013; Murray 2010). Such research has emphasized women's individual resources and credentials, family background, and political experience as factors contributing to their political success; research focusing on the strategic and institutional structural factors that contribute to this success has been rare.

AbstractUsing Eurostat data for 2007, 2010 and 2012, the authors examine the effects of the 2008 crisis on the situation of male and female workers in Italy, Ireland and Portugal, with particular attention to changing labour market dynamics, (intra‐household) employment patterns, and incomes. The gender gaps in employment, unemployment and precarious employment are narrowing, but this trend cannot be interpreted as progress toward gender equality: it is driven by men's increasingly vulnerable position resulting from the generalized deterioration of labour market conditions, including the growth of precarious and/or low‐paid employment, unemployment and poverty to the detriment of household living standards.

Abstract
In Julie Taymor's film version of Shakespeare's The Tempest (2010), Prospero is changed into a female, Prospera. As almost all the original lines and plots are retained, the film would appear to be a 'straight' film version of Shakespeare. However, changing the sex of the main character sheds a new light on the original play and proves the film to be an inspiring adaptation. By examining the relationship between the female characters (Prospera, Miranda) and the non-humans (Caliban, Ariel) in the film, this paper will show how deeply sexuality is related to the power struggle and the final reconciliation.

This research attempts to determine whether Congress was justified in shutting down the Office of Thrift Supervision (OTS) in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis. I do so by comparing its performance with that of the other federal banking regulators: the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), and the Federal Reserve. Results show that the OTS is not consistently the worst performer across a variety of measures. This finding suggests it was unfairly scapegoated and that many of the problems attributed to the OTS still remain at the other agencies, despite financial reforms in 2010.
