The androgen receptor is a transcription factor that plays a key role in the development of prostate cancer, and its interactions with general transcription regulators are therefore of potential therapeutic interest. The mechanistic basis of these interactions is poorly understood due to the intrinsically disordered nature of the transactivation domain of the androgen receptor and the generally transient nature of the protein-protein interactions that trigger transcription. Here, we identify a motif of the transactivation domain that contributes to transcriptional activity by recruiting the C-terminal domain of subunit 1 of the general transcription regulator TFIIF. These findings provide molecular insights into the regulation of androgen receptor function and suggest strategies for treating castration-resistant prostate cancer. ; This work was supported by IRB, ICREA (X.S.), Obra Social "la Caixa" (E.D.M., E.S., and X.S.), MINECO (BIO2012-31043 and BIO2015-70092-R to X.S., BIO2014-53095-P to G.D.F.), Marató de TV3 (102030 to X.S. and 102031 to E.E.-P), the COFUND program of the European Commission (C.D.S.), the European Research Council (CONCERT, contract number 648201 to X.S.), the Ramón y Cajal program of MICINN (RYC-2011-07873 to C.W.B.), the Serra Hunter Program (E.E.-P.), AGAUR (SGR-2014-56RR14 to E.E.-P), and FEDER (G.D.F.). Gregor Wiedemann evaluates text mining applications for social science studies with respect to conceptual integration of consciously selected methods, systematic optimization of algorithms and workflows, and methodological reflections relating to empirical research. In an exemplary study, he introduces workflows to analyze a corpus of around 600,000 newspaper articles on the subject of "democratic demarcation" in Germany. He provides a valuable resource for innovative measures to social scientists and computer scientists in the field of applied natural language processing. Contents • Qualitative Data Analysis in a Digital World • Computer-Assisted Text Analysis in the Social Sciences • Integrating Text Mining Applications for Complex Analysis • Democratic Demarcation in Germany • V-TM - A Methodological Framework for Social Sciences • Integrating Qualitative and Computational Text Analysis Target Groups • Researchers and students in the fields of social sciences, digital humanities and communication science, scientists interested in innovative text analysis methods, computer scientists in interdisciplinary projects or research fields working with large amounts of textual data The Author Gregor Wiedemann holds a doctoral degree from Leipzig University, Germany. He is the coordinator of the discipline-specific working groups in the CLARIN-D project, which develops a European virtual research infrastructure for digital language data analysis in the social sciences and humanities
The role of knowledge in the policy process remains a central theoretical puzzle in policy analysis and political science. This article argues that an important yet missing piece of this puzzle is the systematic exploration of the political use of policy knowledge. While much of the recent debate has focused on the question of how the substantive use of knowledge can improve the quality of policy choices, our understanding of the political use of knowledge and its effects in the policy process has remained deficient in key respects. A revised conceptualization of the political use of knowledge is introduced that emphasizes how conflicting knowledge can be used to contest given structures of policy authority. This allows the analysis to differentiate between knowledge creep and knowledge shifts as two distinct types of knowledge effects in the policy process. While knowledge creep is associated with incremental policy change within existing policy structures, knowledge shifts are linked to more fundamental policy change in situations when the structures of policy authority undergo some level of transformation. The article concludes by identifying characteristics of the administrative structure of policy systems or sectors that make knowledge shifts more or less likely.

Mistrust of scientific evidence and government-issued guidelines is increasingly correlated with political affiliation. Survey evidence has documented skepticism in a diverse set of issues including climate change, vaccine hesitancy, and, most recently, COVID-19 risks. Less well understood is whether these beliefs alter high-stakes behavior. Combining GPS data for 2.7 million smartphone users in Florida and Texas with 2016 U.S. presidential election precinct-level results, we examine how conservative-media dismissals of hurricane advisories in 2017 influenced evacuation decisions. Likely Trump-voting Florida residents were 10 to 11 percentage points less likely to evacuate Hurricane Irma than Clinton voters (34% versus 45%), a gap not present in prior hurricanes. Results are robust to fine-grain geographic controls, which compare likely Clinton and Trump voters living within 150 m of each other. The rapid surge in media-led suspicion of hurricane forecasts-and the resulting divide in self-protective measures-illustrates a large behavioral consequence of science denialism.

The relationship between the Spanish and later the Guatemalan state with the Mayan Indians over the past four centuries is a fundamental component of Guatemalan political history. Since the beginnings of the nation, when the Mayans were political and military entities of power and independence with whom the Spanish had to come to terms; to the 1944-1954 "Revolutionary Era," when Indian communities were finally conceded limited social, economic, and political rights; and the period from 1979 to 1984 in which the military regimes killed "tens of thousands by some estimates as high as 80,000" Indians; the Indian population has been persistently in the consciousness of national officials.

The paper deals with the debate on the General Economic Equilibrium (GEE) in the 1930s in Vienna and at the London School of Economics and offers an interpretation of it different from that of the traditional narratives. It interprets the debate as a renewed confrontation between the two different classical methodological paths of research in GEE, the Paretian and the Walrasian ones. What emerges from this examination is a picture of different approaches and theories in competition, in particular on the issue of the relationship between theory and the real world. This was the fundamental issue at stake. Herein lies also the interest in those distant controversies for the current debate in economics.
