Purpose: This randomized controlled trial compared the efficacy between the Social Enterprise Intervention (SEI) and Individual Placement and Support (IPS) with homeless youth with mental illness to assess their impact on nonvocational outcomes. Method: Seventy-two homeless youth were recruited from one agency and randomized to the SEI ( n = 36) or IPS ( n = 36) conditions. Over 20 months, SEI participants received four SEI components, and IPS participants received eight IPS components. Data were collected on mental health, housing, and social support outcomes at baseline and one follow-up period. Results: Findings from mixed analysis of variance indicate that both SEI and IPS participants displayed statistically significant changes in their self-esteem, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) problems, inattention problems, living in a shelter, and living in a private residence. Conclusions: This is the first study to demonstrate the comparative efficacy and short-term nonvocational outcomes of SEI and IPS with homeless youth with mental illness. Assessment of long-term outcomes of both interventions is warranted.

Abstract
The article presented here is rooted in our doctoral research in Ethnology and Social History developed in the lagoon of Venice in 2010-2013. It is a research based on the methodology of ethnographic field research, in parallel with the bibliographic and archive research. The fieldwork was conducted between March 2010 and August 2012 with 21 informants, fishermen aged 20 to 90 years. In this article we analyze how the formation of a new food taste is a process that can be defined "cultural". We can meet an example in the history of mussel-farming on the island of Pellestrina, an island of fishermen in the southern lagoon of Venice, where the exploitation of this mollusk as food and economic resource appears rather late in history. Our research enabled us to find some frequent allusions to the alleged toxicity of this mollusk, called in Venice peòcio, that is to say "louse", and once considered inedible. What mechanisms have transformed today the mussels into an appreciated and great demanded food, into "traditional food"?

The financial crisis from 2008 has had a profound impact on Irish local government. Councils were faced with a disastrous combination of factors - declining funding from central government, difficulties in collecting commercial rates as businesses struggled, and a drastic fall in revenue from development levies. Staffing levels in the local government sector were reduced by over 20 per cent, significantly more than the losses suffered by central government ministries and departments. Yet the financial crisis also offered an opportunity for reform and a fundamental reappraisal of subnational government in Ireland. A reform strategy produced in 2012 paved the way for the Local Government Reform Act, 2014. As a result of this legislation, the number of local authorities was reduced from 114 to 31 with the complete abolition of all town councils. The number of council seats also fell from 1,627 to 949. Using Scharpf's dimensions of democratic legitimacy, this article assesses whether the focus of the 2014 reforms was on output legitimacy (efficiency and effectiveness) as opposed to input legitimacy (citizen integration and participation).

Abstract. The results of the numerical simulation of possible hydrodynamic perturbations in Lake Chebarkul (Russia) as a consequence of the meteorite fall of 2013 (15 February) are presented. The numerical modeling is based on the Navier–Stokes equations for a two-phase fluid. The results of the simulation of a meteorite entering the water at an angle of 20° are given. Numerical experiments are carried out both when the lake is covered with ice and when it is not. The estimation of size of the destructed ice cover is made. It is shown that the size of the observed ice hole at the place of the meteorite fall is in good agreement with the theoretical predictions, as well as with other estimates. The heights of tsunami waves generated by a small meteorite entering the lake are small enough (a few centimeters) according to the estimations. However, the danger of a tsunami of meteorite or asteroid origin should not be underestimated.

The Practice Pyramid is a learning tool that supports social work students' ability to integrate their understanding of personal and professional values, theory and practice during field placements. Although it has been used by practice educators in Scotland for over 20 years, it is not well known elsewhere and has yet to be evaluated. This paper, written by a practice educator and a student social worker, describes the Practice Pyramid and provides a case example to illustrate how it contributed to one student's learning during a practice placement. Four factors that appear to contribute to its success are proposed: its model of pedagogy, the visual and accessible nature of the tool, flexibility and the support it gives to collaborative learning processes. It is suggested that the Practice Pyramid may usefully support learning in a range of social work and non social work contexts, and would benefit from more extensive evaluation of its role in supporting practice - theory integration.Keywords: Practice Pyamid; social work students; field placements; Scotland; collaborative learning

Significant developments this quarter: In the international diplomatic arena, the UN Security Council approved Resolution 2334, reaffirming the illegality of Israeli settlements and calling for a return to peace negotiations. Additionally, former U.S. secretary of state John Kerry delivered a final address on the Israel-Palestine conflict, outlining a groundwork for negotiations. Two weeks later, international diplomats met in Paris to establish incentives for Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian Authority president Mahmoud Abbas to return to the negotiating table. Despite international discussions of peace talks and the impediment settlements pose to a two-state solution, the Israeli Knesset passed the controversial Regulation Law, enabling the government to retroactively legalize settlements and confiscate Palestinian land throughout the West Bank. Meanwhile, U.S. president Donald Trump took office on 20 January 2017, and he wasted no time before inviting Netanyahu to the White House for their first meeting, in February.

Abstract
Low compliance to a prescribed Coumadin treatment can result in negative health outcomes. In this study we aimed to evaluate risk factors affecting patient compliance to Coumadin. For this purpose, two study phases were performed: Phase 1: a retrospective eight-year follow-up of databases from health care services; and Phase 2: a cross-sectional study with telephone interviews. A Total Compliance Index was constructed using the number of Coumadin purchases (40%), international standardised ratio (INR) tests (40%), and average INR values (20%). Multiple models for the Total Compliance Index were constructed using socio-demographic, treatment-related, and health care utilisation variables, use of drugs, patient-physician relationships and patient's quality of life. 78.5 ± 3.4% of patients in the total population were non-compliant in the retrospective phase of the study, and 53.2% in the second, cross-sectional phase. Total Compliance Index was significantly associated with older age, number of doctor visits, and drugs from group C. We suggest that the Total Compliance Index for other drugs can be utilised as well.

Knowledge on the determinants of Active Labour Market Policy (ALMP) spending accumulated during the 2000s. Despite these advances, the current research lacks a systematic approach to the relevant determinants. This article fills the research gaps by analysing simultaneously the 14 most frequently used determinants for the first time. In addition to these variables, this study introduces a new factor, namely the impact of economic crises. Through the analysis of the longest data period yet investigated of 20 Western countries and a comparison of methodological alternatives, this study both challenges and reinforces previous findings, as well as produces new ones. For example, it is the first investigation to reveal the positive effect of government indebtedness and economic crises on ALMP expenditure. However, the rivalry between the "usual suspects" continues, as the negative effects of budget deficits, foreign trade, and population ageing, and the positive effects of trade union density and GDP growth, were rediscovered in this analysis.

El artículo rastrea el uso del lenguaje de los derechos en los tribunales porteños durante los primeros 20 años de revolución. Los expedientes judiciales utilizados ofrecen una vía privilegiada para pensar sobre la difusión de ese lenguaje más allá de las elites, rastreando usos más generalizados e incluso populares del mismo. En la convicción de que las culturas jurídicas se transforman sobre una base cotidiana, de la mano de los cambios en la percepción de los ciudadanos sobre cuáles son sus derechos y cómo pueden reclamarlos, el trabajo apunta a mostrar cómo los valores y los derechos movilizados por pleiteantes y abogados en el foro de Buenos Aires comenzaron a reformularse en el contexto revolucionario. Si bien no siempre los principios y leyes más novedosos fueron los más eficaces en el arco de las contiendas judiciales, su circulación fue cimentando la creación de una cultura de los derechos legalista cuyo futuro afianzamiento sólo puede explicarse a partir de estos tempranos e imperfectos pasos

Le rapport Stern de 2006 reflète l'urgence de la lutte contre le changement climatique. D'après l'Accord de Paris de 2015, 55 pays représentant 55 % des émissions de gaz à effet de serre prendront l'initiative pour traiter le problème du changement climatique. Cet accord est peut-être la meilleure chance d'inverser le changement climatique. L'Accord de Paris de 2015 met en œuvre des mesures différenciées, équitables, durables et légalement contraignantes pour atteindre ces objectifs. On peut espérer que cet accord est bien plus avancé que son prédécesseur, le Protocole de Kyoto. Ce dernier, entré en vigueur à partir de 2005, appelait la communauté internationale à réduire les émissions de gaz à effet de serre de 5,25 % par rapport à 1990. Cependant, un traité significatif devrait viser une réduction des émissions de 60 %. Cela signifie que les États-Unis, qui représentent environ 20 % des émissions globales de gaz à effet de serre, doivent jouer pleinement un rôle de leader pour valider cet accord.

The contemporary sociological debate highlights that youth is a category of age, but actual chronological youth is hardly viewed as a period of age production. Transition studies exclude youth as a stage of age identity production, while age studies do not problematize young people's experience. This article focuses on age construction by two groups of chronologically young women. The analysis of 40 qualitative interviews with 15- to 20-year-old girls and 30- to 35-year-old women from Saint Petersburg shows that the concept of youth is slipping away from the biographical narratives of the informants from both age groups. Subjective adulthood experienced by young women is a goal and a value, while a young body does not prove to be a significant and available resource. At the same time, adulthood is not constructed as a set of clearly defined social characteristics but as an identity, a subjective experience, embodied adult personhood.

Este trabalho aborda o problema de programação da produção em job shop com tempos de setup explícitos e independentes da sequência de processamento das tarefas visando minimizar a duração total da programação (makespan). Na conhecida notação de três campos, este problema é representado por Jm|sjk|Cmax. O ambiente job shop é aquele em que há um conjunto de máquinas ou recursos diferentes que devem processar um conjunto de tarefas, sendo que cada tarefa possui uma rota específica e pré-determinada para processamento nas máquinas. Para problemas com duas máquinas, nesta pesquisa propõe-se uma adaptação no clássico Algoritmo de Jackson, que fornece a solução ótima para o caso com setup incluído nos tempos de processamento das tarefas. E para problemas genéricos com m máquinas, foram elaborados e implementados dois modelos matemáticos de programação linear inteira mista para os casos de setup antecipado (aquele que pode ser iniciado antes da liberação da tarefa) e não antecipado, que fornecem soluções em tempo computacional viável para problemas-testes com até 20 tarefas e 7 máquinas.

AbstractThis study presents an analysis of consistent wet periods for further improvement of water resources studies. While previous studies have focused on characterizing dry periods, this study uses tree‐ring reconstructed precipitation to detect the occurrence of wet periods of magnitude larger than what can be achieved from the analysis of the historical precipitation records. Tree‐ring reconstructed precipitation for Madaba region in Jordan that began in 1743 was used. The analysis of the historical precipitation indicated the occurrence of short wet periods (1–4 years). The analysis of the 239 years of the reconstructed precipitation indicated the occurrence of long wet periods (7 years), and wet period magnitude of 551 mm, that is 20% larger than the observed from the analysis of historical precipitation. Furthermore, this study presents theoretical formulation that can be used to estimate the expected number of wet events of desired length that could emerge during the operation period of surface resources.

AbstractOver the last 20 years of our careers, we have witnessed a significant decline in the respect for the liberal arts and social sciences. This decline forces us to regularly respond to questions about the relevance, value and future of our discipline. We know that political science provides fundamental skills for our students to succeed in the 21st century. Yet we also believe that as teachers and scholars we can do a better job of connecting to the realities of our students, articulating the skills and attitudes that our students will develop, and adapting our teaching methods to include high impact practices (Kuh, 2008) that focus on student learning. Here we argue that there are four important conversations that we need to have that can strengthen the appeal and interest in our discipline: the articulation of learning outcomes, the inclusion of high impact practices, attention to information literacy that recognizes the significant change in the delivery and access of research materials and a deep integration of indigenous ways of knowing in our teaching.

Existing research on local government adoption of age friendly policies has been limited in its theoretical approach and empirical analysis. While these findings suggest an important role for local government in this issue, this paper asserts that a single model does not offer a full explanation. Therefore, the following paper assess different conceptual models for local government adoption of policies deemed important for older adults to remain independent in their community. This paper argues that responsiveness, multi-level governance, and public entrepreneurship theories offer a fuller explanation for local government policy decision-making. Some local governments throughout the nation are already showing an increase in support for the adoption of age-friendly policies and are designing initiatives that address fundamental policies like housing, transportation, and other services. This research examines evidence from a 20-question survey designed to probe general features of local governments and specific community characteristics to determine the extent to which local governments adopt relative policies and implement programs. The authors find support for a multi-model explanation.
