The Supreme Court's docket may be awfully small, but it's not Justice Kavanaugh's fault.

When it comes to corporate rulebreaking, data from 2002 to 2016 reveals that the US government arranged more than 400 "deferred protection agreements" as a means of deterrence. Under these, a company acknowledges what it did was wrong, pays a fine, promises not to misbehave for a period of time -- and thus is largely let off the hook. Columbia Law School Professor and author of "Corporate Crime and Punishment: The Crisis of Underenforcement", John C. Coffee, says these have done little to deter future wrongdoing.
Coffee joins Luigi and Bethany, both of whom have also extensively researched and exposed corporate wrongdoing, to discuss how to reform aspects of enforcement, such as self-reporting mechanisms, internal investigations, independent external auditors, whistleblowers, and even shame and humiliation.

Last week, the US Supreme Court struck down the Biden administration's student loan forgiveness plan. But there are myriad ways in which the administration could potentially exercise its authority to attain essentially similar ends.

During the past forty years, and due to the global climate changes, Iraq had and still suffering from the spreading and expansion of large dune fields in which many new generations have been accumulated, and older ones have expanded leading to the desertification of huge agricultural and urban areas and causing vast environmental problems that have a drastic effect on the life style of the population. To tackle such a problem, many methods have been suggested and even more are applied to fix the dunes or at least to limit their spreading so that to lessen the environmental impact. Such efforts were tried in many dune areas in Iraq, but it was in vain due to the classical nature of remedy that deals only with temporary and limited results, and in many cases worsening the problem. This is evidenced from the increased nature of dune fields in both area and problems. In this study four major dune fields expanding along four governorates in middle and southern Iraq were studied minerallogically, texturally, and chemically to attest their suitability as fine aggregate for concrete mixtures. These sands are composed of major quartz, feldspars, and calcite minerals, and are devoid of fines (clays), organic matters, and salts. Explicit dune sands of the studied area are not suitable as fine aggregate due to their poor grading, trial on mixing these sands with well-graded river sand (Dibhdiba Formation Sand) in different proportions show that the 35% is optimal for normal load works. Al-Muthana dune sands show the highest evaluations. Missan dune sands were further tested for producing pavement interlock bricks, the results confirmed their aptness for exploitation both economically and environmentally.
Grey dunes are a priority habitat type of the European Union Habitats Directive and demand special attention for conservation and management. Knowledge of the ecology of coastal grey dunes can contribute to this policy. Dune grassland succession is initiated by fixation and driven by the complex of soil formation (humus accumulation) and vegetation development. Leaching and mobilization of CaCO 3 , which are important in nutrient dynamics, complicate the picture. At present, grass- and scrub encroachment greatly overrules these fine scaled soil processes and causes substantial loss of regional biodiversity. Belgium has an international responsibility in grey dune conservation because of the limited range of its characteristic vegetation, flora and fauna. As biomass removal seems essential in grassland preservation, grazing is an important management tool. Evaluation of management measures focuses on biodiversity measurements on the levels of landscape, community and species

Johannes Agnoli's death in 2003 deprived us of one of the most important thinkers of the categorical imperative of human emancipation.
Extensive Spanish dune areas were totally altered due to massive littoral building projects during the 1960's. After the 1988 Spanish Shore Act, the Coastal Authority, Ministry of Environment has been aware of the problem and has undertaken a strong polic of dune restoration. Amongst the present experiences, the restoration of "La Gallega"- a fresh water pond- and the surrounding dunes should be highlighted. Techniques developed for a sustainable management(definition of land uses, restriction of vehicle access, cleaning of the area, installation of facilities for the visitors, impermeabilization, sand trapping, revegetation, environmental information, etc.) are explained. The cost of all the units involved in the project, as well as the measures taken into account to get the different authorities involved in the coastal zonemanagement (National and Regional Governments, Municipalities, Army, etc.) to an agreement were also important. Furthermore, other complementary actionscarried out to guaranteea minimum level of fresh water at the pond and to improve its water quality will increasethe biodiversityby achieving the recovery of some protected species of amphibianslike Pleurodeles walt and Pelobatescultripes. Finaly, a monitoring campaign will be carried out in order to check the suitability of the former activities
